Where DRUNK LOVERS opened with a bright, citrus fuelled rush of energy, the Extrait replaces that spark with something far more commanding. Red wine and wine lees pour into the opening with tannin weight and fermented depth, supported by bergamot and clary sage that feel less playful and more deliberate. The heart of the original was warm and boozy. The Extrait turns that warmth into a slow burn. Red ginger adds a flushed, peppery heat. Davana brings an almost overripe fruitiness that borders on intoxicating. Jasmine sambac lends a white floral density, while Peru balsam wraps the entire heart in a dark, balsamic sweetness. The base is where the Extrait diverges completely. Gone are the soft amber and vanilla of the original. In their place: roasted tonka, smoky and bittersweet. Akigalawood, dry and woody and dark. Cistus, resinous and sun baked. Leather, worn and warm and deeply animalic. And oud, ancient and smoky, pulling the entire composition into a place the original never dared to go.
