Sugidama is a highly conceptual, atmospheric woody-aromatic masterpiece from the independent Thai house Tada Parfumeur. Formulated by founder Tada Archawong, this fragrance is directly inspired by the traditional Japanese sake brewery custom. A sugidama is a large ball made from fresh green sprigs of Japanese cedar (Sugi) that is hung above the entrance of a sake brewery. When it is hung fresh and bright green, it signals that a new batch of sake has been brewed; as the cedar needles slowly dry and turn a deep brown over the months, it tells patrons that the sake is aged, mellowed, and perfectly ready to drink.
The juice beautifully captures this intersection of living forestry and traditional fermentation. It opens with an incredibly crisp, nose-tingling canopy of green sake accord, bitter galbanum, and a cool, airy flash of cypress and pine. This sharp, boozy-botanical introduction shifts into a highly texturized heart where fresh Sugi (Japanese cedar) needles and dry juniper berries are layered with the subtle, sweet-rice nuance of koji fermentation.
